1.0 out of 5 stars It don't work, August 29, 2015
VINE VOICEon August 29, 2015
This was a very disappointing product, especially for the price of nearly $100. Eight months later we are still dealing with bedwetting. Child can easily unplug the device. The sensor does not attach snugly. Alarm is not loud enough when it does go off to rouse the child; he just pulls it out and goes on sleeping.

I would say if the Chummie cost $50 or less, it would be a good risk, but its too much money to waste.

Chummie was a great purchase in the beginning. My child loved it, it seemed to be the helpful reminder we needed. But a few short weeks into life with Chummie- he took on his own personality. His alarm seems to go off whenever he feels like it. Middle of the night, middle of the day- you name it. And now, my child refuses to wear it since the alarm has blared and woken my child in the middle of the night even though they were not wet. Poor product design and now we are back to where we started. I would return the item since the cost was so expensive but it is past the window of return.

Constant False Alarms and no troubleshooting section for them on the "app"

I was hopeful because of all the good reviews and my daughter was kind of excited about it too until we tried it. Within minutes of putting it on and every few seconds afterward, we got false alarms. We tried changing into clean, dry, cotton, undies and making sure it was placed in the correct spot but it would still alarm for no reason. I looked on the "app" (which is just a mobile webpage) for support but could not find any troubleshooting answers for false alarms. I'd rather return the $90 thing than have to go searching deeply in forums or wait for business hours to call them for an answer. There are so many more bedwetting alarms out there at much more reasonable prices.

not only are they poor in service

I wish I could leave 0 stars. About 2 weeks after I received this, the turning wheel stopped working which controls the different tones. A year later I realized we still had a bedwetting issue and maybe the lack of different tones was a culprit. I called Chummie for help and they asked when I purchased. I could not remember at the time. They stated it didn't matter when, but they would replace the base. I verified my order and it was about 1.5 years before. Despite their promise, they began saying they did not have a record of talking to me before and the warranty is only a year. I typically do not mind spending a premium for products because customer service usually reflects the investment. In this case, not only are they poor in service, but also they are dishonest. Do not buy. No change in bedwetting for us.

With a 10 yr old boy, keeping it on at night has been found virtually impossible. I have tried lots of things. We have resorted to ace bandages wrapped around his waist. I am thinking about purchasing the armband and giving that a try.

I bought this for my son. We had it for quite awhile before we started using it. It works well while it works but we only used it for about 3 months and then it stopped working. I'm not sure if the head unit or the sensor unit is broken. The head unit beeps twice when you plug the sensor in, signaling that the system is ready to work. I run the faucet and stick the sensor in the stream of water and nothing happens. When it worked, even moisture on your hands would set it off. The 2 star rating is for our unit's lack of quality and what I would consider a defective unit.

While the reviews I read prior to purchase were helpful, I feel our situation is different now. Sensation and knowing what actually feels like to have a full bladder is what we are struggling with. Good product, as long as no other underlying medical conditions.

I wanted and needed this to work for my daughter after discussing mild bed wetting issues only at night with her doctor. After 2 weeks the alarm beeps and vibrates upon application. It is disheartening and frustrating because I do not have $80 to waste. I worked great before that and really woke my heavy sleeper up. I was hoping to end this problem but now I am waiting for Chummie to respond to my voice mail about a possible replacement. Downside to replacement is that they make you pay shipping among other things....

So far we have had trouble with this. It isn't comfortable, so my daughter doesn't like it. It is hard to get it placed correctly. It goes off when the pants are dry. I'm not sure if we got a dud, or if it just doesn't work well with my daughter.

I am pretty sure I received a dud! We used it once however the base will not stop the alarm vibration and noise. It continued to alarm after the silicone sensor was unplugged from the base. I have turned the unit off and on several times and it continues to alarm even though the sensor is still detached. Once I pulled the batteries out and put them back in but this didn't help either. This has been discouraging. We thoughts we were on our way to dry nights. Back to the drawing board.

We have used the old version on the Chummie before and had a great experience. After a year of dry nights, my son had a relapse and is wetting every night again. We have been using this Chummie now for a month. I hate the clip on this thing! It gives us trouble every night and it is so frustrating to try and get the thing on the shirt and set back up every time it goes off. I am frustrated just writing about it. I don't remember how the old clip was designed but I know we didn't have this trouble every night.

I'm not sure what we are doing wrong...what an 8 year old boy does with an electronic taped to his underwear prior to falling asleep is kind of difficult to tell. He would claim it wouldn't beep. I would test it and it would. The sensor was often not attached to his underwear despite using more than one adhesive. I have quizzed him repeatedly about him removing it, he claims he's not. Again, just hard to tell. We all wanted it to work...back to the drawing board.

Based on the reviews I was excited to try this product for my nine-year-old son. I wish I had actually read the reviews from the verified purchasers because my problems are similar to theirs. The design is so flawed that it simply does not work. We have had it an entire week and it has not stayed on once through the night.

My son moves around a lot when he sleeps. Knowing this, I read the FAQ sheet on the company website and was prepared to use more flex tape and to have him wear two pairs of underwear. Unfortunately, this still didn't help the sensor stay in place. Furthermore, the plug that attaches to the alarm kept coming unplugged. I taped the plug to the alarm, but it still did not work. I even sewed a small pocket into his pajama t-shirt to put the alarm in and secured it with Velcro. Every morning his bed was wet, the sensor was off his underwear and the sensor was unplugged from the alarm. I don't know that anything will work at this point. The "clip" that it comes with is absolutely ridiculous. I also don't want to spend more money for an armband, especially if the thing becomes unplugged anyway.

It's unfortunate because my son was really excited about having an alarm to help him stop wetting the bed. It's hard enough being nine and wetting the bed. Having a tool that is supposed to help, but doesn't work is an additional blow to his self-esteem.

I contacted the company this morning. I'm hoping that they will refund my money. In hindsight, I wish I had gone with an alarm that has a mat on the bed. Unfortunately, we had to scrimp and save for this alarm, so I will not be able to purchase one any time soon.

Bottom line: For any kids who moves when they sleep, this is definitely not the alarm for you.

We bought this alarm for my youngest son to replace an old Malem alarm we used for my oldest son that is no longer working. (The old Malem alarm worked great for my oldest son, and we loaned it out to 3 friends who also successfully used it. I guess the sensor started getting corroded after being used by 4 kids, which is why we need to replace it). We decided to give the Chummie alarm a try because it was less expensive than the Malem alarms, but we have been very disappointed with the Chummie. We are returning it and will buy another Malem alarm instead.
Our complaints about the Chummie alarm: First, they claim the sensor is soft, flexible and will mold to your body. No so! It is very large, rigid and my son thought it was really uncomfortable to wear (he's a side sleeper and it poked into his skin when trying to sleep that way). Second, the sensor does not stay attached to my son's underpants very well, even when we use the Chummie adhesive strips. My son moves around a lot when he's sleeping, and the sensor ends up coming off, which makes it completely useless! He wakes up soaked in pee but the alarm is not going off because it's no attached any more. To get it to stay on, you have to use lots of adhesive tape and then put a second pair of underpants on over the top of the sensor. That's fine when you first put your child to bed, but it's a HUGE inconvenience when the alarm goes off during the night and you have to help your half-asleep child get out of all that wet clothing, go potty, put dry undies back on, and reattach the alarm sensor. NOT pleasant task at 2'oclock in the morning!
I do not recommend this alarm!!! Pay a little more and buy one of the Malem alarms. Their very tiny sensor is extremely easy to attach to your child's underpants, and it will not be noticeable to your child when they are sleeping. Their sensor will not accidentally come off and it's very quick to reset after it goes off in the middle of the night. No adhesive tape required!
